IMG files originated on Atari ST home computers, and were used in Corel Ventura desktop publishing software. If you don't have an Atari computer or Corel Ventura, converting files to modern output types like PDF could enable you to recapture information from archived files.
JPEG
JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group, the people that invented the .jpg standard. JPGs are ideal for storing web graphics or digital photos. The image, header and metadata are all maintained.
