Emails, contacts, appointments, and tasks from Microsoft Outlook often include important information which needs to be preserved as a record. Although EML files might be viewable in your organization today in their native format, converting them to PNG, JPG, or TIFF format is often more effective for filing in a document repository, or for sharing with privileged users on mobile devices, Macs, or that don't have Outlook installed on them.
